So far, the journey to our tiny house dream has been all in our minds. When I say dream, I mean just that. Living in a tiny house is not just going to be cool. It will mean freedom from a huge mortgage, freedom from having the need to accumulate stuff, freedom to pursue other aspirations that cost money that would otherwise be spent on housing and utilities, freedom to spend more time with our children, and the list goes on and on.
The more we plan and dream, the more the dream becomes a reality. We're now set to take action. Our plan includes nailing down a floor plan, pre-purchasing items to go into the tiny home, speaking with builders who can build the initial structure, researching by-laws, putting the word out to potential landowners looking to rent or lease land, and so on.
Here is what we have so far. We have settled on a floor plan and we will be ordering the official plans shortly. We have a line on a couple of builders that we can order structures from to be built on a flatbed trailer. We have selected stores that we will purchase materials from. Our favorites so far include Ikea, Home Depot, Lowes, Hobby Lobby, and Habitat for Humanity restore.
Perhaps the most exciting thing to report on today is that Michelle and I have set a goal for the date we will complete the tiny house and move in. We are going to work very hard to move in to our new tiny house by September 2019, beginning our construction in April 2019. That gives us one year to purchase the structure and items going in, research, and find a location for the tiny house.
Please follow our journey. We want to share it with everyone. We have never owned a home of our own and this is our shot. This is our dream. You're invited to share it with us!
